Diffusion: Incredibly Wonderful particles measuring underneath 0.one micron get bounced around randomly and so are slowed by their interactions with atmospheric atoms and molecules. They ultimately drift or get bounced into a filter fiber, whereupon (another time) they adhere inside a process identified as diffusion.
